Floydian Slips – South Africa’s Pink Floyd tribute band.
Floydian Slips is a South African Pink Floyd tribute show originally conceptualised and performed by Alan Day (guitar and vocals) and Sven Golden (keyboards and vocals). It premiered at the 2002 National Arts Festival in Grahamstown as an intimate acoustic production, with the performers sharing anecdotes of the band in-between songs. After receiving good reviews it generated enough interest to be performed at The Barnyard Theatre in Plettenberg Bay, the Acoustic Café in Muizenberg, the Dorp Street Theatre in Stellenbosch and the Hermanus Whale Festival and four runs at the the Kalk Bay Theatre.
Since its first incarnation, the show had evolved to include synthesizers and electric guitar, and for the foreseeable future, the show will feature a full band, with Paul Tizzard on drums and Jeanne van der Merwe on bass guitar and vocals. The repertoire will represent Pink Floyd’s entire career, from the early, psychedelic era, to the band’s final album, The Division Bell.
Says Alan:
“We don’t want to be too big right now, as we have always enjoyed an intimate atmosphere with the audience, people actually chat with us and ask questions during the show, it’s amazing really. The music, well, people want more than “Brick in the Wall” they want that original Floyd magic and we aim to give it to them.”
“Floydian Slips” is a Cape Town based band and should not be confused with an American Pink Floyd Tribute band called “THE Floydian Slips”
