Guitarist Alan Day has been playing for 38 years.
He has played covers, original music with the cult
band “Falling Mirror” and experimental theatre
with Graham Wier’s elastic band - a rock offshoot
of “Not the midnight mass” - where Alan met
Keyboardist Sven Golden. Both of these latter
bands have been compared with Alan’s first love
- Pink Floyd. In 2001 Alan and Sven formed
“Floydian Slips”, an acoustic duo that performed
only Pink Floyd music to critical acclaim using
just Piano and Acoustic Guitar. Floydian Slips
culminated in a 4 piece outfit that disbanded in
March 2010.
This year Alan Day will be performing his one man show “Pink Floyd - a Singular History” at various
small venues in and around Cape Town. This show has a similar format to the earlier intimate
“Floydian Slips” shows performed at the Grahamstown Festival in 2002. Alan now plays simply with
Solo Electric and Acoustic Guitars. Being more of a “History” than a “Greatest Hits” show, the new
repertoire contains several songs not publicly performed by Floydian Slips in the past, including
material from Ummagumma”, “The Final Cut” and “Atom Heart Mother” as well as some “Solo Floyd”
songs. Many well loved “Hits” are of course “Historical” and new arrangements of these are also
included in Alan’s new show.
